What We Do

Why Choose
Home Care Services

One-on-one care in the privacy of your own home is the best reason to choose in-home care over a facility.

Additionally, it is impossible to see germs, but they are all around us. In a care facility, these germs can spread quickly and cause devastating infections like:  COVID-19, Flu, Norovirus, Urinary Tract Infections (UTI), Pneumonia, MRSA, and C-diff.

Seniors that receive care at home are at less risk for contracting these infections.

Companion Extraordinaire invests countless hours training our care providers to use the safest possible precautions to keep our clients safe and comfortable.

The Companion Extraordinaire Story

Dawn Beninghove

RN, CCM, CRP, NCCDP, CSA

Founder, Chief Operating Officer, Registered Nurse, Certified Case
Manager, Certified Rehabilitation Professional, Faith Community Nurse,
National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners, Certified Senior Advisor

The creation of Companion Extraordinaire grew out of seeking care for my father who was struggling with Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia. Founded in Ashland, Virginia in 2003 and expanded to Richmond, Virginia in 2015, we now serve the counties of Hanover, Henrico, Caroline, Chesterfield and the City of Richmond.

Companion Extraordinaire employs nearly 100 PCA’s, CNA’s, LPN’s and RN’s. Our care providers deliver extraordinary care to many clients with varying diagnoses who are not only in need of care management, but also require assistance at home with activities of daily living through end-of-life care.

I have been honored over the years to receive recognitions from Influential Women of Virginia by Virginia Lawyers Weekly, Virginia Nurses Association Entrepreneur of the Year for Leadership In Excellence, Allen, Allen & Allen Hometown Hero and The Richmond Times Dispatch Metro Business Live Panelist for ‘Lessons Learned: Powerful Business Journey for Women.’

I have acquired numerous certifications and credentials including Certified Rehabilitation Provider, Certified Case Manager, Certified Senior Advisor, American Red Cross Certified First Aid/CPR instructor, Faith Community Nurse, Licensed Minister and most recently, a Palliative Care Certification.

As I reflect on years past and look forward to the future, I take great pride in the level of excellence we provide in client care. I’ve also become increasingly passionate about affording new opportunities to future employees who need extra encouragement. It is one of my greatest hopes that we stay the course and finish well.
