Who needs home care?

There are five Activities of Daily Living that people perform to survive
and function in daily life.
• Feeding
• Dressing
• Bathing
• Hygiene
• Ambulation

If an individual is not able to perform any one or more of the activities of daily living, other activities may be affected as a consequence. This is when an individual may benefit from Home Care.

What is the difference between “Companion” and “Personal” Care?

Companion care may include friendship, household chores, talking and taking walks together. Companions providing services do not have to be certified individuals.

Companion Care Providers may not “touch” the patient in any way.

Personal Care is more comprehensive and includes help with the Activities of Daily Living, and requires a certified professional to provide care.

Home care companies which provide companion services do not need to be licensed by Virginia Health Department.

Companies providing Personal Care need to be licensed by the Virginia Health Department and must operate under strict regulations for quality care, and pass a bi-annual inspection by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Companion Extraordinaire is licensed for Personal Care, Nursing Care and Companion Care.

What is 24-hour care?

After our RN complete your assessment, they speak with our scheduling team to determine which Care Providers’ personality and style of care would be a “best fit” for you. Your Care Provider is custom-selected for you. Although… if you ever feel every feel that our Care Provider is not a good fit, all it takes is a phone call to anyone at the Companion Extraordinaire offices. Communication is key and we will expedite a replacement.

Companion Extraordinaire requires that each employee submit to a criminal background check, a thorough interview, a competency test, personal and employment references check, drug screening, and DMV driving record check. All Companion Extraordinaire are licensed, bonded and insured.

24-hour care is a cost-effective supervision solution, where the caregiver assists the client by day and is available to sleep in the home at night.

A 24-hour caregiver does not actually reside in the home. The Companion Extraordinaire’s Care Provider has a residence of their own and is paid a daily rate.

How do you select your Care Providers?

Companion Extraordinaire’s Care Providers are selected for their kindness and reliability. Client’s have the option to interview individual Care Providers.
